How to Take Apart a Compaq Laptop

How to take apart a Compaq laptop? Well the process is not very difficult, but it is very tricky, because when you assemble the system back together, the terms of the warranty might be violated and you could lose it. What is more, you should take into account that some laptops are not very sturdy and thus you should not do this too often.

You also need to take care when you handle some of the parts, especially if you plan on replacing the motherboard or just cleaning the inside of your system. The only thing you do need is a small screwdriver, but you could also use a container to deposit all screws and tiny parts of the Compaq laptop. In the end you have to put everything together and you should know where you placed all the parts.

So, let’s get started and see how to take apart a Compaq laptop. The first thing you should do is wash your hands and dry them very good. Next, touch a piece of metal to see if the static electricity is out of the question. You don’t want to affect any working of your laptop when sticking your hands inside. The next step includes turning off your laptop and unplugging it as well. Set the laptop on its lid, on the side with the logo and look for the screws with large arrows next to them. The one for the CD drive should be removed. Afterwards, switch off the slide lock and pull out the drive on the side of the system. In the same way you can take out the hard drive and the memory (the arrows next to the screws will indicate which part is under it). The icons for the hard drive are three circles in a row and for the memory there should be a rectangle. In this way you will be able to tell which one is which and you can easily unscrew the parts.

You now have to find the screw for the keyboard and remove it. Now place the Compaq laptop on the side and open it. At each corner of the keyboard should be some clips and in order to be able to remove the keyboard you should pull each clip toward you. Carefully lift the keyboard out of the laptop and put it aside, but be careful also at the ribbon. After removing the parts mentioned, you should be able to see the rest of the components such as the processor, the video card, central processing unit and the extra memory. Now you can remove any part you want as you have full access to it. In case you just need to clean everything up, you can leave the remaining parts inside, but if you want to replace a part, you can remove it and put the new one in the same position.

In case this is the first time you are doing this, you might want to take some pictures while you take apart your Compaq laptop, so you will know how to put everything back together. You can always go on the company’s website for additional service or download some manuals is you need to know some information about the internal components. Also, be careful you don’t lose anything in the process.
